Homes with private wells should test their water for contaminants annually
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends that all homes with private wells test their water for bacteria and nitrates annually. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) only regulates public water systems, so it is up to the homeowner to ensure their private well drinking water is safe for consumption.
BACOG has partnered with the Lake County Health Department to facilitate local, convenient access to water quality tests for Barrington area residents with private wells. The BACOG Private Water Well testing program began in September 2010 and the program is held twice per year – spring and fall. If you would like to participate in the next BACOG water well testing program, sign up here to receive notification of the next program date.
Residents also have the option to test their well water any time of the year through Lake and McHenry Health Departments. The following link will provide detailed information: http://bit.ly/nNIRZc . More information can also be found at: http://bit.ly/ieU5t0
