Barrington Hills Groundwater Monitoring Well

Monitoring groundwater levels at 112 Algonquin Rd, Barrington Hills

For over a year, a small water level monitoring device has been measuring, logging, and broadcasting the most up-to-date groundwater level at 112 Algonquin Road in Barrington Hills. The device is installed in a low-pumping (small volumes and at relatively low rates) village well that supplies water to only the village hall and the surrounding irrigation system. A separate well is used for the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District station, also located at the village hall.

The monitoring well data is charted and can be viewed at different time intervals online: http://www.bacog.org/vbhwelllevel.html. Interestingly, viewers can clearly see the effect of the irrigation system (pumping from the same well between late July and early October) on the water levels – causing sharp and very temporary draw-downs typically between 10-20 feet.

The Village of Barrington Hills has installed water level monitoring equipment in a low-pumping well at 112 Algonquin Rd.  Data from this well will inform long-term water level trends, show the effect of pumping (both for office and irrigation purposes), demonstrate seasonal variations in water levels, and provide baseline data for future climatic or pumping-related water level changes.

Water Level data from the well is available online for various time periods (1 week, 1 month, 6 months) over the course of the last year of data collection.
